This is possibly the most cartoonish injury of all time.

The earliest memories I have about coconuts are images of them bonking cartoon characters in the head. Don’t judge me — I grew up in the Midwest, where the closest we ever come to a coconut is a Mounds bar.

But given this experience, I didn’t think coconut injuries were a thing that really happened. I mean, I was sure they *did* happen, but I thought it was an oddity akin to getting eaten by piranhas or being swallowed by quicksand.

Imagine my surprise when I found out that 150 people die from falling coconuts every year. And that when it happens, it looks something like this:
