A Few of the Reasons why Everyone Fears the A-10 Warthog

Ever since the invention of aviation, the military world was forever changed. Having control of the skies over an area of conflict, a land being invaded, or your own airspace is a key part in winning whatever fight you're engaged in. Enter the Fairchild Republic's A-10 Thunderbolt II, more commonly known as the 'Warthog'. First introduced in the 1970s, this plane was essentially built around the 30MM GAU-8 Avenger rotary cannon (commonly referred to as the 'Gatling gun'). This mind-blowing weapon can fire rounds at an insane 4,200 rounds per minute or 70 rounds per second. This terrifying gun isn't the only weapon on board as the warthog can carry up to 16,000 pounds of other mixed ordnance including 2,000 pound Mark 84 bombs, mine dispursing munitions, and incendiary cluster bombs.

Powered by two General Electric turbofan engines give the aircraft incredible maneuverability at very low speeds, and can travel over 2,500 miles. The plane also has night vision imaging systems onboard meaning no matter what time of day or where you're hiding, the A-10 Warthog can, and will find you. If you ever hear the trademark 'brrrrt' sound, it's already too late.
