Prince Wanted Nothing to Do With Weird Al’s Parodies

Weird Al reveals that Prince never gave his blessing.

In an unearthed 'Today Show' interview from 2015, Weird Al gives some insightful answers to questions about his shows, as well as his writing process.

Being the awesome dude that Weird Al is, he states that he always checks with artists first before creating a parody of their songs so that they can be in on the joke as well. He had never really had an issue with artists saying no, except for one person.

One artist had consistently said 'no' anytime Weird Al inquired about using one of his songs. That artist? Prince. Weird Al even takes a dig at Prince saying that (back in 2015) he wondered if the singer had acquired a sense of humor yet. Obviously the late artist passed away in 2016. So unfortunately we'll never get renditions such as "Purple Plane" or "When Gloves Dry." What can you do?
