Turns Out Cops Have Been Charging Sober Drivers with DUIs
Looks like *they’re* the ones with impaired judgment.
If you’ve ever seen a field sobriety test being conducted and thought, ‘How does that test if someone is drunk?’, you’re probably not surprised to learn that it doesn’t. Depending on who you believe, these tests only work 47% to 80% of the time — which leads to a lot of people being caught “under the influence” who haven’t had a drop of alcohol. And that’s assuming that the cop is trying their best to get things right, which we know isn’t always the case!
Seeing stories like these, a local news outlet in Tennessee decided to investigate just how many people had been arrested for a DUI in recent years, only to find that they had no intoxicants in their system. The number they landed on? Over 600 people in their state alone.
That said, I think the police really do owe all those people they falsely arrested a beer or six.
