Peter Rapine Published 05/21/2023
On August 13, 1997, Howard Stern received a from a man claiming to be a serial killer. At first, Stern wasn't sure if the man was serious or just someone looking for attention, but after a bit of talking, Stern realized the person he was talking to wasn't pulling his leg.
The man on the phone was Russell Ellwood, who has been assessed on August 4, seven days prior to the phone call for purchasing cocaine from an undercover cop. Ellwood was eventually charged with two counts of second-degree murder. But not before calling into Stern and lamenting about how little press he was able to generate for himself.
