The Netherlands’ Competition for ‘Biking Into the Wind’ Looks Absolutely Miserable
Braden Bjella Published 08/07/2024
Everyone who’s ever been on a long bike ride knows that there are two key things that can make the journey miserable: biking uphill, and cycling into the wind.
If you’ve ever been on such a trip and thought, “I never want to do this again,” you’re not these Dutch cyclists, who enjoy the experience of biking against a strong breeze so much that they’ve made a whole competition about it. Across 8.5 horrid kilometers (~5.3 miles), these cyclists push against 75 mph winds to try to see who is the fastest headwind cyclist — or, maybe, who hates their legs the most.
The result looks, well, terrible.
