'The Landlord Comes with the Property': TikTok Tales of Rental Horror Stories
"Apartment hunting is a little bit of a female dog." Those are Adeib's words, and they are completely correct.
While on the hunt for a new apartment in New York City, Adeib thought he'd stumbled upon the deal of a lifetime. Fortunately, his too-good-to-be-true sirens were blaring, and they narrowly kept him from getting scammed.
"I was like bro, this is kind of rare for New York," he says while talking about in-unit washer and dryer, a nice lobby, and a convenient subway stop. But when he toured the apartment, he quickly realized that the catch was an undisclosed roommate: the landlord himself. "The landlord comes with the property," he said.
"So basically it’s communal living with no communal space," one person commented. "So many red flags," someone else said. Hopefully, Adeib can find a good place, with a landlord who gives him just a bit more space.
