The Chicks' 'Goodbye Earl' Has Been Turned Into a True Crime TikTok Documentary
Carly Tennes Published 03/31/2023
Nearly a quarter century after the story of The Chicks' “Goodbye Earl” dominated radio stations in the summer of 2000, the murder ballad has finally ascended to its peak form, getting the TikTok True Crime treatment.
Earlier this week, social media comic @madchalk took to the platform to share her take on the iconic country croon, turning the musical tale of longtime pals Mary Ann and Wanda teaming up to kill to latter’s abusive husband, Earl, into a murder documentary gone awry.
Using the song’s very literal lyrics as the clip’s entire dialogue, @madchalk’s video, which first hit the platform last August, adds all the classic true crime documentary tropes to the Chick’s Y2K hit, boasting a dramatic narrator, mid-sentence dialogue and a few tasteful cuts to black and white.
Zombie Earl was not available for comment.
