Tenants Take Building to Housing Court After Getting Rent Raised While Not Having Gas for 10 Months
You'd be hard-pressed to find a group with more audacity than landlords, and no city's landlords have more of it than New York.
Linds Glass is a young person living in the city, and unfortunately a victim of one such landlord.
"It's the 10-month anniversary of no gas in our apartment," she exclaimed in a viral TikTok. "And they want to raise the rent $255." Her roommate was visibly angry.
"We have no fridge. No freezer. No stove. No oven," she said. "And packages get stolen every day." The pair went on to reveal that even the building's roof access had been revoked.
"You can legally withhold rent until repairs are made," Alexis Serrano commented. Other viewers recommended a class action lawsuit.
Fortunately, Linds shared that the building was being taken to housing court. Even Con Ed got in on the legal action, and everybody knows you don't mess with Con Ed.
In the meantime, Linds is taking her newfound followers on house tours for new apartments. Hopefully, she finds a nice spot soon, preferably with a fridge and stove.
