Somebody Shot Santa Claus While TV Crew Was Filming

The ABC affiliate was covering a toy giveaway in the southeast side of the Washington D.C. when somebody shot Santa Claus in the back with a pellet gun. A random shooting, or was it because he was wearing "red" in a "blue" neighborhood?
