Oregon’s Pumpkin Regatta Has People Floating the River in Massive Pumpkins
Braden Bjella Published 10/21/2024
How about instead of carving a jack-o’-lantern, this year, you carve a canoe?
While the idea sounds ridiculous (because it is), these people are actually doing it. This is Oregon’s Pumpkin Regatta, where competitors carve out a giant pumpkin, hop in, then race the thing until they finish or the pumpkin sinks into the lake.
The competition is, of course, not that serious. No one is breeding super hydrodynamic pumpkins (yet), and attendees tend to show up in costume rather than any sort of specialized racing gear. But who knows? Give it time, and it might become America’s next big sport — it’s no dumber than pickleball.
