Andrew Cunningham Published 08/18/2022
Larry Mazza was a member of the Colombo family, one of the Five Families in the Italian Mafia that operated in New York and New Jersey. He was known as a hitman for the Colombos and had a deadly reputation that preceded him. In 1991, an internal Colombo war erupted. Acting underboss Victor Orena seized power from jailed patriarch Carmine Persico. Twelve people, including three innocent bystanders, died in this gang war, and 18 associates have never been seen again. More than 80 made members and associates from both sides of the Colombo family were convicted, jailed, or indicted after the brutal battle between the families.
