July 5th Is a Hand Surgeon's Least Favorite Day of the Year

"There's only one day that strikes fear into the hearts of every hand surgeon."

That's what the orthopedic hand surgeon Dr. Erin Nance had to say about July 5th: The day after everyone and their over-eager brother decide to quite literally try their hand with explosives. 

Dr. Nance typically uses her TikTok page to share a broad spectrum of medical stories. But with our nation's independence day upon us, she instead elected to display a compilation of x-rays from patients whose fireworks experience didn't exactly go to plan.

"This should be PSA on a billboard!" another viewer added. 

The X-rays are beyond disturbing, and undoubtedly life-altering for every patient involved. The risk hardly seems worth it for a few extra colorful bangs. 

So the next time you're thinking of setting up some fireworks, just remember to use a steady hand, because you might not have one by the time you're done.
