Several weeks after Rush and four mega-rich passengers died when their vessel imploded during a trip to the Titanic wreckage, a friend of his, Karl Stanley, is getting candid about Rush’s intentions for OceanGate, which he says may have been designed to help billionaires meet their end.
“Who was the last person to murder two billionaires at once, and have them pay for the privilege?” the friend told 60 Minutes’ Amelia Adams, arguing that Rush’s shoddy operation of sending wealthy patrons to the depths of the Atlantic on an unregulated vehicle with long, documented structural issues may have been entirely by design.
ok, i know we’ve all kinda moved on from the titanic sub “disaster”, but 60 minutes australia recently dropped an interview with one of the owner’s former friends that is some of the best television i’ve ever seen.

“I think Stockton was designing a mousetrap for billionaires,” he said, alleging Rush “definitely knew it was going to end like this.”
“The only question in my mind, the only question is when. He was risking his life and his customers’ lives to go down in history,” Stanley continued. “He’s more famous now than anything else he would have ever done.”
Not exactly what Marx had in mind. But then again, the Titanic didn’t sink for another 25 years after he died.
