Injured Crosswalk Guard That Saved Child's Life Hailed as Hero

Annette Goodyear, a corporal with North East Police in Maryland, was working as a crossing guard at a local middle school when a motorist failed to yield to her stop sign. Thinking fast, Goodyear threw the child out of the way of the car, leaving her unscathed from what could have been serious injury or worse, only to be struck herself.

Goodyear, a veteran of the police force, was immediately tended to by onlookers and the motorist herself before being taken to a nearby hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Shortly after the incident, Maryland governor Larry Hogan said he would be awarding Goodyear with a citation for her heroism.

The motorist was reportedly cited for negligent driving, failure to stop at yield sign before entering a crosswalk, failure to stop for a pedestrian in a crosswalk and for driving with an expired registration. We applaud Goodyear for her fast reflexes and bona fide heroism, throwing herself into harm's way to protect a young girl from what could have been a life-altering injury.
