British Airways Pilot Narrowly Avoids Flipping Over in Heavy Winds
SKYBRITE Published 02/03/2022
An air traffic enthusiast captured this British Airways flight encountering heavy winds while landing, ultimately resulting in the pilot having to pull back up.
The scene occurred at London Heathrow Airport on January 31, 2022, when a British Airways A321, operating flight BA1307 from Aberdeen, Scotland (ABZ) to London Heathrow (LHR) attempted to land in London but had to abort due to conditions on the ground. The UK was in the midst of winter storm Corrie, which caused fierce wind gusts up getting up to an absolutely staggering 92 miles per hour in some places.
Those gale-force winds knocked the plane from side to side as it attempted a landing, and the quick-thinking pilot had to pull back up at the last second to avoid flipping over. The resulting maneuver also got the tail of the aircraft to strike the ground ever so slightly. Ultimately, the plane was able to land on a second approach.
