Australian Newscaster Chugs an Impromptu ‘Shoey’ on Live TV

What a quirky bunch those Aussies are.

Along with coming up with some of the world’s most ridiculous slang (what do you mean you call liquor stores “bottle-o’s”?!), Australia also has, unsurprisingly, a strong drinking culture.

Day and night, you’ll find Aussies throwing back some of their country’s surprisingly delicious cuisine while sipping on a Victoria Bitter or a Tooheys. Sometimes, if they’re feeling particularly wild, they’ll do it from a shoe. This is called a “shoey.”

During a news report about Daniel Ricciardo, a Formula One driver who has famously done shoeys while on the podium, someone tried to photobomb the newscast by doing a shoey in the background. Undeterred, the newscaster decided to join in.
