A Mid Air Collision Between and Orca and a Dolphin
Chet Donnelly Published 02/04/2022
The ocean is a vast expanse absolutely teeming with life. From the world's largest animal the Blue Whale, to the tiny and microscopic plankton and single-celled organisms, there is no shortage of life in the great deep. Scientists estimate there are over 1 million different species of animals in the world's ocean, 90% of them being invertebrates such as jellyfish and shrimp.
Don't let their nickname "Killer Whales" fool you though as wild orcas are not considered a threat to humans, and no fatal attack on humans has ever been documented. However, there have been cases of captive orcas killing or injuring their handlers at marine theme parks.
In this wild clip, some fisherman or perhaps tourists on a whale watching tour witnessed a wild sight as a huge Orca whale slammed into a Dolphin while breaching the waters and "jumping" into the air. You can hear the audible surprise in the bystander's voices as they observe the unusual sight. Orcas and Dolphins are actually related as Orcas are the largest animals in the Oceanic Dolphin family.
