25 Cities With Appropriately Bad Reputations
We just love to give cities weird little nicknames. For example, we all know that Paris is "the city of love."
But what would "the city of hate" be? To get the answer, we rounded up the most hateful cities from around the world. Did your hometown make the list?
1.
Noventa di Piave, near Venice. It is said that people there plant beans with shotguns. In fact, the locals call the town Noventa Violenta, which translates into Violent Noventa.-u/Siocane
3.
Philadelphia. While in the Navy (Canadian) doing some sightseeing during a stop on our way to PR (Rosie Roads), we were jumped by a group of teens, not far from the Liberty Bell. The chase only ended when we were within sight of our ship. In all my world travels I have never been chased, like in the movies. I’ve been to some dodgy ports of call, but nothing compares to Philadelphia.-u/Dewey081
7.
Adana, Turkey.
Shooting at Sun because it's too hot is such a common event that it has a different code than normal shooting/gun violence-u/Erenogucu

Wheeling, WV. The Friendly City my foot! I’ve never met a more weirdly insular, strangely defensive community in my life.-u/TheKnotStore
11.
Dallas, TX used to be nicknamed The City of Hate in reference to the assassination of JFK.-u/BasicWitch999
15.
Phoenix, Arizona in Aug......temp is +120F.Everyone is chronically dehydrated, toting guns in public, and super gassy from terrible knock-off Mexican food. Everything you touch in your car results in 2nd-degree burns. It is an utter hellscape of wrinkled, sunbaked, nightmare..-u/Crazy_Fun_3455

It would take too long to fully explain Detroit, but essentially Detroit has gone from the 4th most populous city in the US to the 25th, losing 2/3 of its population between 1950 and 2020.There are many reasons - crime, racism, the 1967 riot, the decline of the US auto industry, a crooked and shady city government, banking regulations that favored the suburbs, the worst school system in the nation, the war on drugs and mass incarceration, etc. Almost everyone with money left the city and all that was left was poor people. While the downtown and midtown areas have started to recover, there are still hundreds of deserted buildings and thousands of deserted homes throughout the city. Recovery is especially hard because taxes are high in order to sustain such a large city, so most of the area’s population remains outside the city.-u/chriswaco

New Delhi
City with the most suicides in the world. there has to be a lot of hate to get to that number-u/DELAIZ
20.
For all Belfast's charm and craic, there is still lots of poverty and sectarian hate bubbling under there. And parts of the city you shouldn't go if you kick with a different foot-u/jayone
21.
I nominate Bakersfield, CA…Scariest place I’ve ever stopped for gas. People across the street were staring daggers at me for making eye contact.-u/Optipus
22.
Here in Chicago “rolling shootouts” is an actual phrase now. Its suggested not to eye or look at the driver next to you at a stop light.-deleted user
24.
Camden, NJ
Ah, Camden. Twenty years ago I remember the advice was if you have to go to Camden at night, the stop signs are optional. And from experience, this was very true, even though I was a teenager driving a not very nice car. I came in there obeying the stop signs, people would come up and just try to open the car doors. Noooope.-u/UnfairCanary
