Let me tell you a joke. A guy walks into a bar and sits down to order his drink. Right next to him however is a giraffe that has had too much to drink, and is lying on the ground. Irritated by the whole scene the man says,

"Hey, what's with that lyin' over there?"

The bar tender responds,

"That's not a lion, thats a giraffe."

Is that a good joke? No, it's not a particularly good joke. But presumably you get the joke, either as you read it just then, or because you have heard it before. It is not a particularly hard to joke to get, especially when written out, as the word play becomes instantly clear. But that very simple understanding makes you better than these people who simply didn't get the joke. Try to stay on this side of getting the joke.
