People Who Were Screwed Over By the Media
However, these are people who were scrutinized above and beyond what can reasonably be expected, either through fault of their own, or through the fault of the media. These people were exploited for clicks, money, and fame, without regard to their personal stories. Some perhaps deserved it. Most did not. I guess it's up to you, person consuming the media, to decide for yourself.

Christopher Jefferies who had the bad luck to be a bit strange-looking and eccentric and be the close neighbor of a murdered woman. Originally questioned over the murder and released, he was hounded by Britain's tabloid papers right up to the point where it was proved that someone else was the murderer.

Edward Snowden. The guy may have defected but he revealed how corrupt our government actually was.

Brendan Fraser.Was shamed and blacklisted for admitting to being sexually assaulted in the industry.

A lot of Dolly Parton media from her early years is pretty hard to watch. She always handled it like a class act, though.

Stella Liebeck. Nearly died from 3rd degree burns courtesy of McDonald’s coffee, gets them to stop serving coffee at a hazardous temperature, and what does she get? Her name synonymous with stupid lawsuits and even Darwin-esque awards for stupidest lawsuits.

Jake Lloyd. Not his fault much of Phantom Menace was cringe, especially the dialogue. Personally, I think Anakin should’ve been introduced and played by a teenager. Would’ve made his relationship with Padme less creepy.But that was all Lucas. Kid didn’t need to crapped on by fans and the media.

Sinead O’Connor. The media practically cancelled her for speaking out against abuse in the Catholic Church.

Amy WinehouseIf you see that doco about her, her parents did not help that situation at all. Her mum knew she was bulimic from a young age and did nothing. Her dad could see her suffering and still encouraged the paparazzi to take photos of her while on holiday no less. Gross, gross parents.

Milli Vanilli. The producer behind them is the one who should have got all the sh*t, it was all his idea.

The Duke lacrosse guys. Rich, over privileged white frat bros who beat and raped a black stripper they had hired to perform at their frat party. Because of course they did, it was obvious. Lock em up and throw away the key.Except it never happened. The woman made it all up. They were presumed guilty, and were treated as such by the media.Charges were eventually dropped, but not before the accused and sustained extreme damage to their names, reputations, and, surely, mental health. Eventual fallout would include the prosecutor getting disbarred for fraud, and Duke University settling with the guys for $20 million each. The stripper? Several years later, she would be arrested and convicted of murder after stabbing her boyfriend to death. Yea, it's unrelated, but it's a lso a window into the kind of person she is.

Amanda Knox. I can’t imagine being blamed for the murder of your housemate and doing time for it. Not only that but the real murderer went to prison yet people still think she did it!
