Meme Legend and Very Long Cat 'Longcat' Has Died

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of a meme legend and extremely long-cat, Longcat. Longcat has been a fixture of meme culture for longer than a decade and people are sharing their favorite memes and memories of a truly long cat. Rip little dude, you will be missed, but not forgotten.

Longcat, whose real name according to KnowYourMeme, is Shiroi, meaning 'white' in Japanese, was first posted to the internet by her owner, in 2004 on 2chan. Shiroi who is also called Nobiko, became known as 'nobiiru' which means stretch in Japanese and would later be called referred to as Longcat, has passed away. Longcat is undoubtably one of the most popular cats in the history of the internet and has been a fixture in meme culture for more than a decade.

As word of Longcat's passing began to spread on Twitter many people shared their favorite memes and memories of the long little cat, and so we've included some as well. You may be gone but you are not forgotten, RIP Longcat. Forever in our hearts.
