The man pictured is 52-year-old Frederick Callison, who moved to Sacramento from Washington two years ago hoping to be a line cook for the Salvation Army. When the opportunity fell through he was left homeless, pushing carts for the Smart and Final store in exchange for the right to hand out his resumes on the premises.

Marteen shared Callison's resume with colleagues he'd met while working at a catering company and eventually connected with a downtown restaurant called Pizza Rocks, which offered Callison a job.
