This is what happens when you treat good employees like dirt.
After being passed up for a well-deserved promotion in favor of some incompetent buffoon with an inside track, this employee started resorting to doing the bare minimum that was required since that's what the nasty boss said to do.
Eventually, however, the office politics just got to be too much and not only did the employee quit, but the entire department also quit out of solidarity.
