You've probably heard the saying "Blood is thicker than water" used to encourage people to side with their biological families during tough times - but did you know that's not actually the full saying? The actual words are "The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb," which means that the bonds you choose to create are actually more meaningful than the ones you were born with - pretty much the opposite of how we've come to understand the shortened, modern version of the saying.
