Brown Recluse Spiders Force Family Out of Their Home

The family was forced to relocate soon after purchasing their house.

A Missouri family was forced to abandon their home due to a massive Brown Recluse infestation.

Brian and Susan Trost purchased the home in 2007. During the initial walk-through, the infestation was not apparent.

Susan reported that after a few days,she started seeing spiderwebs everywhere. They coated the mini blinds, pantry ceiling, air registers and their fireplace.

A month after living living in the home, Susan said she heard her 4 year old son screaming from the basement. She claims she went to see what was wrong and found a spider about the size of a half dollar near his foot.

After confirming that the infestation of spiders were Brown Recluse, the Trost family called in various exterminators, but their efforts were proven useless.

In 2008, the Trost family filed a claim with State Farm and a civil lawsuit against the previous home owners, Tina and David Gault, for allegedly not disclosing the Brown Recluse infestation along with other problems they had with the house. I believe I would want my money back as well.

At the jury trial in St.Charles County in October of 2011, Jamel Sandidge, A Biology Professor at the University of Kansas, described the infestation as an "Immense Hazard" stating that there were possibly between 4,500 - 6,000 spiders.
