Yeah, that's not how any of this works. How far up your own a** do you have to be to tell one your your employee that they, "can't quit." But alas, the world of middle management is full of frauds and phonies who will preach on and on about how they're "your friends" and that they see you, their employee like "family."
In this specific case, a data management specialist, with a unique role gave his boss more than enough time to find his replacement, yet he was completely ignored. So when his last day came and went, it was no surprise that his boss never took his resignation seriously.
And now, he's going to pay the price of his own hubris.
