The word 'vandalism' comes from the ancient Germanic tribe known as the Vandals who famously sacked Rome. While there's not much historical evidence to claim they were especially destructive compared to other invaders of the time, they did intentionally destroy some statues and the association has stuck through the centuries.
However, not every act of vandalism is totally reprehensible. Some are downright hilarious!
