Automatons are an overlooked piece of artificial intelligence, but they’re incredibly cool. They were invented in the 1800s as a toy for rich kids. Designed for a specific task, some can draw a few pictures surprisingly well, some could play piano or flute and there’s even ones that can deal cards and shoot arrows.

Essentially, automatons are robot versions of the creepy kid who was always drawing, and turned out to be autistic.
