36 Mushrooms from the Depths of Hell

Mushrooms are maybe from a different planet. They really seem like they do not belong here. They’re not animals, they’re not plants - they exist in a class of their own. They grow in the darkness - incredibly creepy - and they feel like sponges made out of fake meat.

The Last of Us, a show about mushrooms that take over humans and turn them into zombies, showed us how terrifying fungi can be in science fiction. But turns out, real life mushrooms are just as spooky. Maybe even more so.

Here are some mushrooms that genuinely look like they grew from the depths of hell. Some of them bleed, puff out smoke, or look like dirty ghost hands. It’s strange, kinda beautiful, and definitely unsettling.
