Who does not love a good insult? Well probably the person being insulted, but for the rest of us, it can be a funny and often savage ordeal. Insults have been a way of life since the invention of language. You can be sure there was always someone who was quick to fire off a sick burn or hilarious roast. I would have loved to see the face of the first recipient of an insult, what a truly history milestone.

A good insult can really cut a person down as heftily as any katana -- wounding them in a way that leaves them alive, but only in the broadest technical sense. A really stringing insult leaves them breathing, eating and sometimes sleeping but never truly living. It leaves them with only their sentience, condemned to walk the earth a husk of their former selves, illuminated to the now-undeniable mediocrity of their existence.

And they're also deliciously funny to anyone who happens to hear them.
