Sometimes the universe itself seems to align solely to single someone out. And, every now and then, that person happens to be you and you're left baffled by the seemingly insurmountable odds fate overcame just to kick you in the shin.

Other times, that person happens to be someone else. In which case, laughing at their abject misery is the only reasonable thing to do. Indeed, pleasure at another's expense is nothing to be ashamed of; the Germans have a whole word to capture that every specific sort of satisfaction.
