27 Movie Endings That You Never Expected

Star Wars Return of the Jedi - Han Solo was about to die, but Lucas though of the toys that would not sell, so Han lived.

Clerks originally ended with Dante getting shot and killed by a robber. Kevin Smith said he ended it that way because he didn't know how to end it otherwise, but when his two mentors informed him that the ending was just a giant downer, he decided to end the movie just before the scene where Dante is killed.

Boiler Room (2000) - In an alternative ending a swindled client decides to take revenge. On his way in the office, he bumps into the main character and drops his stuff, including his gun, only for Seth to help him and go on his way – the two had never met face to face, sparing Seth the oncoming shoot-out.

I am Legend has an alternative ending where Will Smith realizes the creatures just want the female back and have human feelings. When they take her back and leave peacefully Dr. Neville figures out they are just disfigured humans and he is a murderer.

Seven - The funders of the movie preferred an ending that didn’t result in any heads in boxes, if someones head was supposed to roll it would be the detective's dog. Pitt said it would be stupid and refused to save his characters wife that gruesome fate.

Dawn of The Dead - Ends with the couple flying away in a helicopter, the original concept was for them to commit suicide, and the helicopter crash when it's fuel runs out.

A Nightmare on Elm Street - Ends with it all being a dream within a dream, original ending had Heather Lagenkamp waking up from the long nightmare to discover that all the horrible murders she envisioned were just a dream. But someone asked "What about the sequels?" so Freddy turned out to be real in the re-worked ending.

Babylon A.D. - The producers cut out about an hour of material to make to movie pace faster, which pissed off the director/writer Mathieu Kassovitz; he said they corrupted every scene from the start trying to make it an action movie, and that the movie was about people not explosions.

The change came after test audiences reported that this death wasn’t heroic enough. The decision seems to come from that idea that being crushed under a bridge for no reason is more heroic than being shot in the back for no reason, proving that all the test-audiences in the world can’t save your movie if you’re a f**king idiot.

Deep Blue Sea- originally the hot Doctor that created the mutant sharks was supposed to live. The audience hated the Doctor character (Suffron Barrows) so the Preacher and Tom Scoggins survived instead and she died.

Blade 3 - The ending was stupid - Dracula turns into Blade so the humans think Blade is dead, but turns back so the humans know Blade survived. They had two more endings. One in which Blade is too weak, he stops Dracula but he lives and Blade is taken to a morgue which he escapes. The other one shows Blade fighting a new enemy - werewolves after vampires been wiped out.

Suspicion - In the original ending of this Hitchcock classic, Cary Grant’s Johnnie would indeed be revealed as the killer. His wife (Joan Fontaine) had suspected him all along. However, the studio RKO were conscious of the public’s perception of Grant as a hero, and in the out-cry over his potentially devious ways, Hitchcock changed the ending to a happy one where he intended to do no harm to his wife, something which he complained about for many years after.

X-Men Origins - Wolverine, in this movie Deadpool died, which was strange considering him getting his own movie; but the post-end scene shows part of him survived. It also showed Wolverine in Japan, hinting at the 2013 movie "The Wolverine".

Terminator - The first movie also had an alternative ending, but this one did not change the story, but rather explained stuff we learn in Terminator 2. The alternate ending has a group of company suits hiding the Terminator remains from the police during the clean-up at the factory. The film ends by showing the camera panning out from the factory to show it was owned by none other than Cyberdyne Systems.

Die Hard With A Vengeance - In this alternative ending McClane did not have a fluke, and Simon got away. Some time after the events of the film, we find a triumphant Simon Gruber hiding out in Hungary after killing all partners, girlfriend included. There Simon is approached by McClane who was a suspect, had been interrogated by the FBI and forced out of the NYPD. He then forces Simon to play a game of Russian Roulette called McClane says, using a mini rocket launcher with the sights and targeting arrows removed. After winning the game and forcing Simon to shoot himself in the chest with a rocket, it’s revealed that McClane was wearing a flak jacket.

The A-Team movie - In the new version of the classic tale, after the ending Face and Murdock meet the original Face and Murdock - Dirk Benedict and Dwight Schultz.

Lethal Weapon 3 - Some time after the end Riggs and Murtaugh once again pull up at a hotel and debate whether to go in, except this time they’re far too late - the building explodes. Cue comedy reversing, with Riggs hoping, “Nobody saw us” before a joint “I’m too old for this shit”.

Young Sherlock Holmes - A decent Sherlock Holmes movie especially considering it was before Robert Downey or the TV Holmes. People said that one thing was missing - Moriarty, but the post-end scene showed the villain was in fact Moriarty under a false name.

Curse of Chucky - In new Chucky it seems he will switch to the little girl's body at the end, but a scene after the credits shows she mailed Chucky to Andy from the original Child's Play.

Avengers - The North American debut had a additional scene where the tired Avengers go for a meal in a ruined diner, they eat a local cuisine - shawarma.

Airplane! - The post credits sequence of Airplane! shows Striker’s taxi still parked in the airport and the passenger still waiting inside.

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off - After the credits Ferris Bueller comes and tells people to go home, because the movie is over. (Note: this is not Bueller but a junkie played by Charlie Sheen, and this is from a scene during the movie.)
