Tattoos are a lifelong commitment. Sure, you can always get laser removal, but that takes several sessions over multiple weeks/months and your tattoo will look progressively s**ttier until you're actually done with the whole treatment. You could also potentially get a skin graft instead, but that's also a lengthy process that isn't exactly cheap or readily accessible to most people.

When getting a tattoo, it's REALLY important to make sure you choose a good artist whose portfolio you've spent time looking over and fully understand their strengths and weaknesses. Never, EVER cheap out on a tattoo - maybe your buddy can draw a tiger on you for several hundred dollars less but there's probably a reason why the real artist's work costs so much more. When it comes to something this long term, make sure you invest in quality lest you end up with permanent regrets.
