“Honduras. I (white blonde female) travelled alone a lot in my 20's all over the world backpacking style and never had issues. Then I met a dude in university who was originally from Honduras and we talked about travelling and backpacking and he told me in a very serious manner that I should NEVER EVER even think about going backpacking or any type of individual travel to Honduras. He said staying in a tourist facility with a travel agency for an all inclusive holiday would PROBABLY be okay but I should not by any means just travel there on my own if I didn't want to be murdered, raped and robbed. This left quite an impression on me.” - Susannah_Mio_

“So this isn't answering your question directly, just a little story. My great aunt, who just passed away last week at 106, was a world traveler. She visited something like 166 countries in her life. She was a highschool teacher and would travel every summer, even after she retired she traveled all the time. She always had great stories about her travels and generally spoke positively of every country she visited. The one time I really remember her speaking negatively, or saying she didn't like a location was about India. It was something about the extreme wealth juxtaposed with extreme poverty and slums right next to each other. However, I'm not sure when she traveled there. Most of her travelling was between the 1950s-2000s.” - tenaciousE56
