When you hear the phrase ‘off-the-grid living’, the first thing your mind probably conjures up is a hermit draped in rags spear-fishing in a polluted river - not very glamorous.
But there are other options for shunning society’s contrivances besides roughing it in the woods. If you have a few million dollars to spare, you too could be living in one of these sustainably-powered self-sufficient mansions in remote locations.
Imagine living hundreds of miles from your nearest neighbors, waking up every day to the most beautiful vistas on Earth, and getting to eat delicious turnips taken straight from the dirt. Okay, that last one isn’t that appealing. But as you’ll see in these pictures, off-grid life doesn't have to be rough.
