Turns out that before then they painted stuff that was insanely weird and totally hilarious. “Weird medieval guys” on Twitter is doing the dirty work in unearthing the oddest visual works from the days of yore. Before art was sophisticated, medieval art was a lot of uncanny animals, awkward stabbings, and mischievous little weirdos.

The account is run by Olivia Swarthout, a data scientist living in London with a passion for the characters of the Dark Ages.
