Way too many people think history is just a bunch of random dates and names to memorize, and then promptly forget about once they pass the test. It's sad because the fact is that most school textbooks do tend to present history in exactly that way, completely glossing over the fact that these were real people who - just like any of - had complex personalities and motivations that actually made them very interesting!
History also doesn't happen in isolation either! One of the better-known examples of this is the fact that wooly mammoths, which we associate almost exclusively with the prehistoric caveman era, were actually still around when the Egyptians were building the pyramids!
