In a heartwarming moment that’s surely already well on its way to being turned into an adorable Disney movie starring James Marsden, a bike thief in California was caught on camera befriending the dog of the family whose home he was stealing from.

In the video, the burglar can be seen leaving the garage with the bike, which is apparently worth $1,300, as the dog approaches him. He’s not a monster, so he greets the golden retriever with a “hi buddy” before wheeling the bike back inside the garage and parking it so he can properly pet the dog. Scratching the dog’s face, he says, “You’re the coolest dog I’ve ever known, I love you too.”

Continuing to talk to the dog, he adds, “You’re a sweetheart. I want you to come home with me. Where’s your dad? Your dad should know not to leave your garage open.” The thief is then apparently so concerned about the risk of the dog following him that he starts calling for “dad” in the hopes of him coming down for his pup, potentially not considering the fact that it would also mean he would be caught in the act.

After accepting a few more face licks and reminding the dog that he’s the coolest dog ever, the thief grabs the bike and finally, and slowly, flees the scene, as the dog looks on, tail wagging happily.

According to CBS News, neither the bike nor the thief have been located at this time. Still, there’s really only one true bad boi here.
