We’ve all seen enough horror movies featuring creepy crawlies to have a healthy fear of things coming out of the drain, but one unfortunate Redditor has had all their worst fears realized, finding what can only be described as a mysterious entity in their drain and subsequently asking Reddit for help.

Posting to r/WTF, the Redditor shared a video of an incredibly rusty-looking drain caked in muck that’s apparently playing host to a colony of… an unidentified mass. Zooming in on the colony, viewers will see a huge lump with strings around the edge, moving and seemingly alive. It looks incredibly messed-up, to say the least.

Wtf is this monster in my drain?!

Fortunately, the Reddit brains trust was on the case, and one person suggested that the mass looked similar to a colony of tubifex worms, which are apparently a favorite food of many sea creatures and amphibians.

With the identification out of the way, everyone moved on to cracking jokes, with a commenter urging OP to keep quiet, because “you need a $500 deposit for pets in these apartments.” Someone else added, “Me: Hi, sorry to bother you, but there is a colony of Tubifex worms living in my drain. Landlord: No pets, also rent is past due”.

Other commenters turned philosophical, with one musing, “It’s interesting that we live on this planet and also there are creatures we rarely encounter that are practically alien to us.”

OP hasn’t responded to any of the comments or provided an update to their infestation problem, but hopefully it’s been resolved with minimal drama. Either that, or they could start feeding it and adopt it as a pet.
