Whoopi Goldberg, 66, has been suspended from her longtime position on ABC's 'The View' for on-air comments regarding the holocaust. During a segment regarding the banning the highly-acclaimed, Pulitzer prize-winning graphic novel, Maus -- which takes place in Nazi Germany -- and To Kill a Mockingbird in Tennessee and Seattle respectively, Goldberg repeatedly made the claim that "the Holocaust wasn't about race."

Her co-hosts pushed back on-air, pointing out that a core Nazi belief was rooted in white supremacy, but Goldberg insisted that it the Holocaust wasn't race-related, but about "man's inhumanity to man." The production even started to play "wrap it up" music while Goldberg was still talking before abruptly cutting to a commercial break.

Shortly after Goldberg's comments, ABC President Kim Godwin released a statement saying that the longtime presence on the view who took over for Roseanne Barr all the way back in 2007, has been suspended.

Yesterday, Goldberg has gone on something of an apology tour -- starting with an appearance on The Late Show where she said that it was never her intention to upset people and that she was simply caught off-balance mid-conversation and made the mistake of poor phrasing.

Nonetheless, opinions are divided over what the proper course of action for ABC was, with many people saying that it was too severe a kneejerk reaction, while others are infuriated by what they deem a minimization of the holocaust.
