A cargo plane making a trip to Belgium from New York yesterday was forced to return to JFK when a horse escaped its cargo stall. The flight had only been in the air for 30 minutes before the horse escaped the confines of its cage, forcing the plane to descend 31,000 feet back to the ground.

Obviously, this is hilarious and not something that happens often, at least we hope not, but what's even funnier is the audio recording of the pilots talking to air traffic control after the mare made its escape. The pilots on board can be heard saying, "We are a cargo plane with a live animal, a horse, on board. The horse managed to escape its stall. There's no issue with flying, but we need to go back to New York as we can't resecure the horse."

According to reports, the flight was also forced to "dump 20 tons of fuel over the Atlantic," due to the "weight." Why we aren't sure, but hey, what's a little horsing around without also some pollution thrown in for good measure?

After landing back at JFK the horse was again secured and the Air Atlanta Icelandic was able to take off again, successfully this time and make its way to its destination.

And for those thinking what we're thinking, "there are too many damn horses on this MF-ing plane."
