Video Sunglasses Have Taken Harassment to a Whole New Level

Turns out, having a camera on your face at all times leads people to make some pretty stupid decisions.

Ever since Ray-Ban debuted their collaboration with Meta — aka Google Glass that doesn’t make you look like an idiot — people have been using the product to casually capture their everyday lives without taking their phone out of their pocket. Nice, right?

Unfortunately, for everyone using the technology in a normal way, there’s about a dozen people using it like absolute gremlins.

Recently, the internet has become filled with people using video sunglasses to harass people. For example, 24-year-old Heston Cobb, otherwise known as Heston James, was arrested earlier this month for using the glasses to film social media content in which he “pranked” businesses by pretending that he worked there, which occasionally involved actually working on stuff that requires professional training, like auto repair equipment.

Then, there’s the people who are using the glasses to find new and exciting ways to commit harassment. Streamer Herculyse recently called out those who wear the glasses after a video recorded with a pair of such frames went viral; in it, someone hits on her while pretending not to be able to speak fluent English.

“THIS is why these glasses or any version should NOT exist. I VIVIDLY remember this interaction, I had no idea I was being filmed. This was to be sent to me tonight after I was recognized. This is disturbing. Makes me sick physically,” she wrote in a post on X. “this is violating & WRONG.”

So, if you’re considering getting a pair of these, just use them to film your family like a normal person.
