A common meme in the vegan community is how often they’re asked, “How do you get your protein?” Well, now we have an answer: cat food.

Earlier this month, an X/Twitter user caused discussion and, honestly, disgust after saying that they discovered a brand of paté cat food that had zero meat content. Rather than just see this as a curiosity, the user decided to do the unthinkable: eat it.

Of course, this reminded many of the greentext posts that used to occasionally float around 4chan of people doing, or consider doing, the same thing.

However, this X/Twitter user took it to the next level by actually consuming the product — so delightfully, in fact, that they now claim it’s become part of their everyday diet.

Seeing this, users expressed understandable disgust. That said, OP seems to really enjoy the stuff, writing in one post that they “kinda like it.” When further users countered that, dear God, there’s *surely* some better vegan food out there, OP retorted that there were none that were as calorically dense, and that other cooking options were too much work.

Users still weren’t having it. For some reason, they suggested a) not eating cat food, and b) going to a doctor, psychologist — really, *anyone* who will tell them to stop doing this.

In case you were wondering, it’s not a good idea to consistently eat cat food. As noted by Catster, “In America, all pet foods are subject to oversight by the Food and Drug Administration. However, these standards are not the same ones imposed on food made for humans. Because of that, if you get sick eating pet food, you may not have many options for legal recourse.

“While it doesn’t pose any severe health risks when consumed in small amounts, long-term consumption can lead to deficiencies and health issues you’d be better off avoiding,” the article concludes.

If you’re vegan and really worried about protein intake, for God’s sake, just buy some vegan protein powder. At the very least, it will stop the questions about why there’s so much cat food around your house when you don’t have a cat.
