Running the paper route has long been a summer job of choice for youths around the country. It’s easy, close to home, and gets you paid and out of the house. But if you live around Lake Geneva Wisconsin, working the mail means something completely different. For that, you need speed, agility, swimming competency, and tons of energy.
June 13 was the 2023 US Mailboat Tryouts, where young prospective mail boys and girls competed to see if they have what it takes to jump off of a boat, deliver mail, and jump back on before it sails away.
But while that girl, Emma, looked like a pro on her first run, not every delivery is so straightforward, or dry.
According to the Lake Geneva Cruise Line TikTok page, the boat delivers mail to over 70 homes and has only 2.5 hours to do it as part of their US Mailboat Tour.
“Brilliant, put the mailbox halfway up the dock instead of near the boat,” Boaz Durkin commented. Other viewers also felt like there has to be a better system.
But really, the answer to every logistical question can be answered in the same way: “Where’s the fun in that?”
