One college chancellor discovered that putting the “d” in “edu” can come with some hefty consequences, getting axed from his role at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse after consensually creating and posting several pornographic videos with his wife.
On Wednesday, the Universities of Wisconsin Board of Regents, which oversees 13 colleges in the Badger State, took a decisive stance on their employees boning their spouses, unanimously voting to remove Joe Gow from his longtime role after discovering he and his wife had created and shared NSFW (not safe for Wisconsin) content.

The Universities of Wisconsin have fired UW LaCrosse Chancellor Joe Gow for “abhorrent” actions. The release does not say what the conduct entailed, but an outside law firm will investigate. pic.twitter.com/UVn58eIAm8
“Upon my recommendation, the UW Board of Regents today terminated Dr. Joe Gow from his position as chancellor of UW-La Crosse effective immediately,” Universities of Wisconsin President Jay Rothman wrote in a statement. “In recent days, we learned of specific conduct by Dr. Gow that has subjected the university to significant reputational harm.”
Though Gow, “as a tenured faculty member” will ultimately stay on staff at UW- La Crosse, transitioning into a faculty position following his administrative leave, Rothman made it clear he wanted the ex-chancellor gone for good, denouncing his penchant for consensual kink as “abhorrent.”

“I have filed a complaint this evening with interim Chancellor Betsy Morgan regarding Dr. Gow’s status as a tenured faculty member, asking that such status be reviewed,” he continued, noting that “an outside law firm has been engaged to undertake a fulsome investigation of the matter,” one that is definitely not an excuse to watch a bunch of porn at work.
But even with this influx of fans, Gow was less-than-thrilled with this decision, alleging that his employer was violating his constitutional rights to free speech … and consensually f—king his wife.
“My wife and I live in a country where we have a First Amendment,” Gow told the Associated Press. “We’re dealing with consensual adult sexuality. The regents are overreacting. They’re certainly not adhering to their own commitment to free speech or the First Amendment.”
As such, the educator, who is allegedly contemplating taking legal action, said he wished he “would have had the opportunity to have a hearing” surrounding the situation.
“When reasonable people understand what my wife and I are creating, it calms them down,” he added.
While Gow isn’t wrong — universities shouldn’t govern their faculty’s sex lives — this isn’t the first time his penchant for porn has landed him in hot water with the puritanical overlords of Wisconsin’s higher education system.

Back in 2018, Gow was denied a raise after purportedly paying porn performer Nina Hartley $5,000 out of student fees to give a speech on adult entertainment.
But just as the now-former UW-La Crosse higher-up changed his ways when it came to appropriate usage of student funds, we can hope he’ll take his latest lesson in stride … one demanding he land The Universities of Wisconsin Board of Regents’s consent before boning his wife.
