Singapore's Nanyang Technological University has developed a new machine that turns cockroaches into remote-controlled cyborgs. Not only that, but the machine can do this in less than a minute.

The reason they’re doing this, they say, is because they want to play God. Just kidding — they say the true genesis behind this idea is that cockroaches are both small and pretty hardy. Therefore, they argue that these robo-cockroaches, complete with tiny cameras, could be helpful in doing things like searching through rubble at disaster sites in search of survivors.

Helpful? Yes. Frightening? You can decide for yourself, but personally, if I see a cockroach with a camera in my kitchen, I’m breaking out the Raid and then moving straight to the woods.
