The internet is firing out endless memes, tweets, and takes about the UnitedHealthcare CEO assassination. Of course, it was a violent, horrific event but most people online wouldn’t call it a tragedy. What's a tragedy is the American healthcare system and people are tired of pretending it isn't.

The CEO, Brian Thompson, was a multi-millionaire who made his fortune primarily through profiting off of sick Americans. Any time someone tries to come out and say anything along the lines of “This isn’t good,” the meme machine shoots them in the back with laughter and ridicule.



The perfect example of this can be seen displayed on UHC's Facebook and LinkedIn pages. The company posted a memorium for Brian Thompson, which was soon thereafter bombarded by comments and laughing react emojis. According to Twitter's Community Notes, the Facebook post was deleted after 32,000 people reacted with laughing emojis and according to 404Media, the LinkedIn post was locked after 73,000 people responded with laughing emojis. Nice. 


In in world where people feel as if their voices aren't being heard and that they are lambs thrown to the slaughter, they are fighting the only way they can, with memes. Another undeniable victory for the masses who despise for-profit healthcare. 



As social media managers struggled to contain the firestorm many health insurance providers removed their director's pages entirely. Oh and Anthem Blue Cross, who this week said they'd stop covering the entirety of a patient's anesthesia reversed the decision soon thereafter. Wonder why?
