Two Hundred People Are Currently Stuck on Mount Everest

And we don’t really know how they’re going to get down.

Climbing Mount Everest is really, really dangerous — and yet, between 700 to 1,000 climbers try to do it every year.

Why? Because climbing Everest is both a big achievement and actually within reach for many people. If you can afford to do it, and if you’re willing to put in a bit of training, summiting the world’s highest mountain can be easier than climbing other, lower peaks like Annapurna I or K2.

This is why, every year, many wealthy people find themselves on the path toward the top — and, occasionally, getting stuck there.

This happened again over the weekend, where a massive blizzard trapped hundreds of people on the mountain. While 350 people have been guided to safety, there are around 200 people still on the mountain. To make matters worse, no one is really sure how to get them down, as heavy snowfall has impeded rescue efforts and made independent descent difficult.
