Despite knowing them, loving them and literally emerging into the world from them, it seems men know pretty much jack shit about women — as proven through r/AskReddit’s most recent viral monstrosity.
Earlier this week, Redditor u/Ubemin took to the subreddit with a bold inquiry: “Boys, what is something you didn't know about girls until you got with one?” they wrote in a post that has since garnered more than 18,000 upvotes in its first nine hours on the site.
The answer? A whole fucking lot.
Aside from the myriad of classic creepy replies, the “It's way lower down than you think” and the Hannibal Lecter-esque “how soft their skin feels” (brb, throwing away all my lotion), it seems hygiene and shower habits emerged as a common thread.
“Their hands are awfully cold, they’ll suck the heat right out of you when you’re cuddling, and they shower with water at the temperature of molten steel,” a commenter noted, adding that “the amount of hair everywhere is ridiculous.”
Our apparent penchant for not freezing our asses off while bathing wasn’t the only thing that left the men of Reddit confused — including a fabled anonymous poster who learned a hard lesson about foot care.
“Not me but I saw a post once where a guy was super confused about the rocks in his gfs shower, and had come to ask what they are and where he could find them to put in his shower so she would feel comfortable (in a put a stick and leaf in a jar for a frog vibe),” wrote one user, adding that “He thought you’d just find them outside.”
The “rocks” in question, he quickly learned? “She had pumice stones,” they continued.
Beyond our bathing supplies and the very-well-calculated times in which we use them — “they plan when they’re going to shower their hair and when not to,” commented one surprised Redditor — the plight of periods and other female struggles.
“How bad period cramps can get,” added another commenter. “Watching someone who I knew to be a strong person mentally, get reduced to basically just crying on the couch for days, that was eye-opening.”
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be lobbying for women 101 to be added to all schools.
